Lesson 4: Grobby matches pairs 1 to 6In this lesson, we are matching sets of dots to equivalent sets of six bricks, then matching numerals and written number words to each corresponding set. Learning outcomes%u2022 We are learning to read numbers%u2022 We are learning to identify set quantities with or without counting%u2022 We are learning to match numbers to sets of equal valueProcedure%u2022 Cut out all 4 sets of cards and arrange into respective sets of six%u2022 Shuffle the cards%u2022 There are now many ways to play with the sets of cardsTask 1Ask the children to place the brick cards in a row sequence, starting with the 1 brick card and finishing with the 6 bricks card.Next, lay down the corresponding equivalent %u2018dot cards%u2019 from 1 to 6.Underneath, ask them to lay down the matching number numerals from 1 to 6.Underneath that, lay down the matching words from %u2018one%u2019 to %u2018six%u2019.Task 2Play a game of finding matching pairs (equal value) e.g. 3 dots and 3 bricks. Take the 6 dot cards and the 6 brick cards. Shuffle them. Now distribute all 12, face down on the table.Play a game of finding matching pairs (set and number) e.g. 3 bricks and 3 dots.Task 3Take the 6 brick cards and the 6 word number cards. Shuffle them. Now distribute all 12, face down on the table. Play a game of finding matching pairs (set and number) e.g. 3 bricks and the word %u2018three%u2019. Task 4Take all 24 cards. Shuffle them. Give half to each student. Play a game of %u2018snap%u2019 i.e. You can snap if you have a matching pair, be that a dot, brick, number or word e.g. 3 bricks and the word %u2018three%u2019 is a snap.Think of other ways that you can use the cards to build speedy recognition of sets, words and numbers.TipStore the individual sets of cards in small zip-lock bags for repeated use and reinforcement towards mastery.10
