Learning outcomes
In this course we aim to:
  1. Align teachers’ professional practice in the use of Artificial Intelligence with the DEY Guidance on Artificial Intelligence in Schools (2025), the Digital Strategy for Schools to 2027 and relevant national and EU AI strategies and ethical guidelines
  2. Enable teachers to develop "augmented professional competence" (OECD, 2026) in the use of AI, strengthening skills in professional judgement, instructional decision-making and critical oversight
  3. Develop teachers’ capacity to use AI to improve the skills required to plan high-quality lessons, design differentiated learning experiences and create curriculum-aligned teaching and assessment resources for Junior & Senior Infants classes
  4. Strengthen teachers’ assessment practices through the use of AI to support formative assessment, feedback, success criteria and reflective evaluation of pupil learning, while retaining teacher control and accountability
  5. Enable teachers to engage in an iterative, reflective process when using AI, where human expertise is applied at each stage to refine prompts, evaluate outputs, adjust instructional decisions and improve outcomes, ensuring that AI supports high-quality teaching, learning and assessment in Junior & Senior Infants classes
  6. Build teachers’ AI literacy and critical evaluation skills, including the ability to assess AI-generated outputs, identify inaccuracies or bias, refine outputs for classroom use and apply a consistent 'teacher-in-the-loop' approach
  7. Showcase practical exemplars of AI-supported teaching across Language, STEM, Social and Environmental Education, Wellbeing and the Arts, supporting inclusive and UDL-informed classroom practice
Modules
01 - AI Pedagogy & the PLC

In module 1, we pay particular attention to the concept of the "synergistic augmentation paradigm" between the teacher and AI. This fascinating vision for the future of education is based on striving for "augmented competence that is greater than the maximum of an individual human or AI alone".

We detail the elements of the AI Mastery Lens Framework for teachers, and in this module, we pay particular attention to the Purpose/Pedagogical Imperative and Digital Fluency.

Prompt engineering is an important aspect of effective engagement with AI. We look at a number of different models.

We recap the most effective Generative AI tools and how to refine prompts iteratively to produce the best AI outputs, which are then applied in various ways to support teaching, learning and assessment of the PLC in Junior & Senior infant classes. This is action-based learning on using AI with teacher oversight and control.

Teachers also engage with AI tools in an iterative, informed process to create and support PLC-aligned learning experiences in the topic areas for Junior & Senior infant classes, including phonics, oral language activities, vocabulary development and basic writing tasks.

In this module, we also cover how AI can support effective classroom management by helping you create clear routines, visual supports and engaging activities that keep infant learners focused, settled and ready to learn.

02 - AI Mastery & STEM

In this module, we focus extensively on professional judgement (the "teacher in the loop" model) as an essential prerequisite for effective use of AI.

We demonstrate various Generative AI tools and how to refine prompts iteratively to produce the best outputs, which are then applied in various ways to support teaching, learning and assessment of the Primary Maths Curriculum in Junior & Senior Infants. This is action-based learning on using AI with teacher oversight and control.

Using AI to support the implementation of the key pedagogical practices when teaching maths is explored in detail.

Teachers also engage with AI tools in an iterative, informed process to create and support PMC-aligned learning experiences in the topic areas for Junior & Senior Infants, including Patterns & sequences, Shapes, Numeration and counting. We also examine how AI can be used to support assessment for Junior and Senior Infants.

We explore how AI can be used to support personalised learning through the design of customised lessons and resources that are responsive to individual learning needs.

The potential for AI to support differentiated learning strategies based on the primary mathematics curriculum progression continua is explored and demonstrated.

03 - AI Proficiency & Aistear planning

This module continues to enable teachers to build their professional mastery of AI for optimal and augmented use. We cover the importance of AI literacy and the ethical considerations that underpin the use of AI in Education.

In this module, we cover how AI can support Aistear planning by helping you design purposeful play experiences, organise engaging learning stations and create clear, manageable plans that align with children’s interests and developmental needs.

We demonstrate various Generative AI tools and how to refine prompts iteratively to produce the best outputs, which are then applied in various ways to support teaching, learning and assessment of the SEE Curriculum (2025) in Junior & Senior infant classes.

Teachers also engage with AI tools in an iterative, informed process to create and support SEE- aligned learning experiences in the 'Identity and Heritage' strand unit in Junior & Senior infant classes.

We explore how AI can support personalised learning by designing customised lessons and resources that are responsive to individual learning needs.

The potential for AI to support the design and development of integrated learning across the curricula is explored and demonstrated.

04 - AI Expertise & the Wellbeing Curriculum

Meeting the principles of UDL with the help of AI tools is demonstrated in the context of a unit from the Wellbeing curriculum.

We demonstrate various Generative AI tools and how to refine prompts iteratively to produce engaging learning experiences, which are then applied to support teaching, learning and assessment of the Wellbeing Curriculum (2025) in Junior & Senior infant classes. This is action-based learning on using AI with teacher oversight and control.

We show teachers how to use an AI prompting process that refines with human input at each cycle to create a yearly Wellbeing plan for Junior & Senior infant classes.

Teachers also use AI tools in an iterative, informed process to create and support learning experiences in the Wellbeing Curriculum for Junior & Senior infant classes.

We explore how AI can support the creation of assessments to determine if learning outcomes in the Wellbeing curriculum have been met.

Given the huge variation in sporting abilities, differentiation and personalised learning activities are particularly important when PE activities are used to support learning outcomes from the 'movement competence' strand. We explore how teachers can use AI tools to help here.

05 - AI Creativity & the Arts Education Curriculum

AI Professional Mastery to support teaching, learning and assessment in the Arts Education Curriculum.

We demonstrate various Generative AI tools and how to refine prompts iteratively to produce engaging learning experiences, which are then applied to support teaching, learning and assessment of the Arts Education Curriculum (2025) in Junior & Senior Infants. This is action-based learning on using AI with teacher oversight and control.

We show teachers how to use an AI prompting process that refines with human input at each cycle to create a yearly Arts Education plan for Junior & Senior Infants.

Teachers also use AI tools in an iterative, informed process to create and support learning experiences in the Arts Education Curriculum (Art, Drama and Music) for Junior & Senior Infants.

We explore how AI can support the creation of assessments to determine if learning outcomes from selected topics in the Arts Education curriculum have been met.

' Hands down the best course I've ever done for EPV or on AI because it just showed me how to use and link it in ways I'd never have thought of before. Outstanding, thank you'. Clare. 2025
