FSE - Fifth & Sixth Class Education

Perspectives on literacy, numeracy and much more!

Are you currently teaching fifth and/or sixth class or perhaps moving into this class grouping for the next school year? Are you looking to sharpen up your approaches, searching for new ideas, hunting for creative resources, on the look out for additional techniques, then you have come to the right place! We have gone the extra mile to craft an all encompassing, well resourced course for the teacher of fifth and/or sixth class.

In this self-paced curriculum focused & classroom practical course, filled with creative ideas & top tips and packaged with superb resources to take away, we begin by looking at the defining principles and features of the primary school curriculum. We explore the nature of learning and look at assessment as a central starting point to teaching and learning and look at short and long term planning as fundamental to proper curriculum delivery. We will work through various text types in English in order to better understand their defining features as they relate to childrens’ reading and writing.

We have added Spreag an Gaeilge this year - here we itemise some great tips that should guide your effective teaching of Irish, along with some sample lessons from the excellent Séideán Sí programme and our dip into Gaeilge is completed with a suite of class appropriate games, songs and poems.

We will examine some of the best approaches to concept building in mathematics supplemented by quality teaching resource materials, followed by an exploration of ‘The Writing Process’, encompassing it’s application in the classroom and potential to drive better writing outcomes. Included here will be a large section on the reading, appreciation and writing of poetry.

The course concludes with a look at a ‘Thematic’ approach to S.E.S.E.. along with lots of creative approaches & ideas for the visual arts and activities for all areas of the P.E. programme in Fifth & Sixth class.
